Mission

Our mission is to bring parents, teachers, children and the community together to enhance the learning experience for the students of Hardwick Elementary School. We strive to contribute to all students and staff enjoying a happy, safe and engaging learning environment.

Fundraisers

Fall Mum Sale

We held our second annual Fall Mum Sale to start the year off. We work in cooperation with local businesses, The Flower Basket and Clausen's Greenhouse to source beautiful, VT grown hardy mums that we sell to the community. This is a great event for us and will continue every fall at the start of the school year.

Aware Craft Fair

This year we took on running the concession stand at the long-running Aware Craft Fair held every October at HES. It was a successful first year and we will now run it for them on an annual basis.

Bobcat Gear

We sell HES Bobcat shirts throughout the school year to any families and staff needing to update sizing if they grow out of the free shirt we initially provided. This year we started a full HES Spirit Gear Sale where we sold hoodie sweatshirts, long-sleeve tees, baseball caps, winter hats and bandanas. It was a huge success and really gave the community a kick of school spirit. We purchased HES stickers as a thank you gift and distributed with all orders. We are working to run a second sale this spring.

Bottle Drive

In April we will put on our third annual bottle drive. This will happen April 22, time TBA in the HES parking lot. Check our Facebook page for updated info!

Initiatives

Library Support

We annually provide financial support to the school book fair the librarian puts on so that ALL students are able to purchase a book regardless of whether or not their family can send them in with money.

Welcome New Families

We attend Kindercamp in the summer before school starts to welcome all new HES kindergarten families.

Back to School

We purchase HES Bobcat school shirts for every new HES student and staff member at the start of each new school year and then distribute them to welcome new members to HES. We provide a "welcome back to school" snack set-up for all staff for the first week of school and this year donated gift cards to local businesses for the principal to distribute during staff orientation week at the start of school.

Playground

This fall we participated in the school-wide playground work-bee to try to improve the condition of our playground. We also purchased sand toys for the kindergarten classes to use in the new sand that was added to the sand box. We have gone before the school board to speak to the need for a new playground at HES and continue to follow along and be hopeful for any progress there. Last year we purchased the supplies needed to build a "Gaga Pit" for the playground. It was built and installed to start this school year off and has proven to be a huge hit with students.

Winter Clothing Drive

Last year we held a winter gear clothing drive to collect, clean, sort and distribute new and used winter gear for all students so everyone has appropriate and warm gear to wear while out on the playground.

Popcorn Day!

We started a new event this year that we will hold annually as long as we can: Popcorn Day! We spend one day a month making popcorn for every student and staff member and then distribute it to each class for their snack time. It's been a big hit!

CLiF grant:

This year our school has been blessed to receive a CLiF grant and we have worked with the staff on the CLiF Committee to help where needed. We made a last-minute financial donation to their CLiF kick-off all school event in the fall to secure the food needed for the dinner. We also baked to provide the items for the dessert and worked to set up, distribute and clean up all these items.

School Kindness Weeks

We donated items and worked with Student Council members to put on a random drawing for small gifts for students and staff as an act of kindness to close out the School Kindness Weeks in February.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

In May every year we put on a Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week spread with snacks and giftcards to local businesses.

We donated the use of our hotdog machine and a supply of cases of soda and water to the 6th grade concession fundraiser for their end of year trip.

6th Grade Graduation

We purchase Hazen t-shirts for all HES 6th graders and distribute them as a graduation gift in June so that they will have a new school shirt for middle school. In years past we have even done this as a gesture of kindness for 6th graders at Lakeview and Woodbury at no cost to their PTO's.

Enrichment

In the past we have provided Enrichment Funds for each classroom ($125 for each classroom and $250 for each special- art, PE, Music and library). We decided to put that on hold this year in favor of providing more all school togetherness events so we are working to hopefully add an end of the year all school assembly and a family dance this spring to our events to round out the 2022-2023 school year.

Teacher and Staff Feature Friday

This year we started "Teacher and Staff Feature Friday". One of our students came up with a list of questions that we ask all staff and then feature their answers and photo on Facebook and on a bulletin board at school in an effort to introduce all staff to the community.
