Physical Education

Students have physical education twice a week for 40 minutes. The focus of physical education at our school is giving students an opportunity to learn, and participate in a variety of physical activities. Their learning  gives them the knowledge, and skills, to participate in physical activity throughout their lifetime. Students learn about the importance of exercise and how it relates to physical fitness. Social skills such as respectful behavior, sportsmanship and being able to work with others is also a big focus in classes.

About Mike Baker, Physical Education Teacher

"I graduated from the University of Vermont where I double majored in Physical Education and History. This is my 23rd year teaching at Hardwick Elementary School. It’s always amazing being able to watch students' excitement when they make their first baskets and use the parachute for the first time. It’s so great watching their progress from kindergarten to sixth grade. I have spent a lot of time coaching over the years including JV and middle school basketball, little league, and elementary school basketball and soccer. It’s great teaching and coaching in such a supportive community. I have two sons, Isaiah and Jadon, who have grown up in Hardwick and have made me so proud! I enjoy being outside, going for walks, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and playing golf."

What do students say about PE Class?

6th Grade Student: “I love going to p.e. It’s one of my favorite things to do at school. It’s been nice to learn new skills. I’ve learned about how exercise makes you healthy and about sportsmanship when you play games.”
3rd Grade Student: “My favorite part of p.e. Is having fun and getting my energy out. I like doing laps and running. I have learned about basketball, catching and throwing. I’ve learned about being respectful to people when I play games. I have learned to say ‘good game’ to the other team and that it’s okay to win or lose.”
