Visual Arts Program at Lakeview and Woodbury Elementary Schools

Students in Grades K-6 explore all content areas of Visual Arts. Lesson plans are based on the National Core Art Standards. Students are graded 3 times per year on Participation, Effort, Behavior & General outcome of Artwork. Students learn about basic Principles of Visual Arts & Elements of Design, which are: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture, Movement, Repetition / Pattern, Balance, Contrast, Emphasis / Dominance, Unity, Historical / Cultural, Criticism / Appreciation & Evaluation.

Students are always encouraged to work at their own pace, yet complete lessons.

We get outside often to explore the Arts, connecting to nature. Our lovely landscapes which surround us, as well as nature trails, are explored often and used as a method of integration of the Arts.

Throughout the school year, we explore: Basic 2 and 3 Dimensional drawing, Mixed-media projects, Painting with watercolors, acrylics, & tempera paints. Printmaking, sculpture, and so much more is incorporated into lessons.

About Jayne Donahue

Graduated with a B.A. in 1983

It is my pleasure to teach the youth at four different schools! Lakeview and Woodbury Elementary Schools are amazing places to learn & share Visual Art concepts with the awesome students that belong here. I also teach at Wolcott & Walden schools. I have been teaching at Wolcott and Walden for 14 years, and Woodbury and Lakeview schools for 25 years. Some of my thoughts regarding a philosophy of education are:

·An elementary educator needs to be creative through all areas and aspects of education, yet flexible for meeting individual needs.

·Our communities, homes, schools, and churches must be a major contribution to education. An education program should reflect the needs of students’ horizons for a broader world.

·The environment is very important, with all people working together and learning to share throughout all aspects of each day towards a lifelong commitment to education.

·Consistency, with these aims, will lead to students’ developing an awareness of themselves and their own roles in the world.

If my students can walk away from my Art classes with one awareness; this would be, to never give up on a dream and most importantly to be themselves. Self-respect will lead to respect of all others. It is truly my pleasure to work with students daily and witness their progress.

On a personal note: I have been married for 41 years and live in Greensboro Bend, VT, on a large farm where I raise Black Angus beef, Eggs, and maintain large gardens.
