Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)

The Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) model used at Lakeview Elementary School is designed to support students in their social-emotional growth and development. We believe that all students need explicit instruction in this area and to that end, our PBIS Team has developed a matrix of expectations across school settings. These expectations will be directly taught to all students during the first week of school and re-taught as needed throughout the year. We additionally offer a menu of additional supports for students who may need additional instruction and intervention in a social-emotional skill area.

An important element of our PBIS implementation is an ongoing program of school-wide acknowledgements. Our three school-wide expectations are Respectful, Safe and Ready to Learn. When students demonstrate these expectations, they earn “Laker points,” which in turn accrue until the school has met its goal and celebrates positive behavior with a school-wide acknowledgement. Every year students look forward to earning Laker points and celebrating with activities such as a fall field day, beach day, winter carnival week, etc.
