Visual Arts Program at Woodbury Elementary School

Students in Grades K-6 explore all content areas of Visual Arts. Lesson plans are based on the National Core Art Standards. Students are graded 3 times per year on Participation, Effort, Behavior & General outcome of Artwork. Students learn about basic Principles of Visual Arts & Elements of Design, which are: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture, Movement, Repetition / Pattern, Balance, Contrast, Emphasis / Dominance, Unity, Historical / Cultural, Criticism / Appreciation & Evaluation.

Students are always encouraged to work at their own pace, yet complete lessons.

We get outside often to explore the Arts, connecting to nature. Our lovely landscapes which surround us, as well as nature trails, are explored often and used as a method of integration of the Arts.

Throughout the school year, we explore: Basic 2 and 3 Dimensional drawing, Mixed-media projects, Painting with watercolors, acrylics, & tempera paints. Printmaking, sculpture, and so much more is incorporated into lessons.
