Did you know Lakeview has a beautiful case of stuffed birds in the entryway to the school? \ History of the Lakeview Bird Display Case
William Massey donated this bird case filled with taxidermied birds. William’s wife, Loretta Massey, had a brother Robert John Cassavah (1899-1971), who is believed to have assembled this display. Some of the birds in the case may have come from museums (extra museum specimens are often auctioned off.) Of note, the passenger pigeon (specimen in the Lakeview display) became extinct in 1900.
This bird case was on display at the lower building until 1968 when Greensboro closed the town high school and joined Woodbury and Hardwick to form Hazen Union.
The case was then installed here at Lakeview Elementary School (first called Greensboro Elementary School, then Lakeview Union School when the towns of Stannard and Greensboro formed the union in 1985/1986.)
