Lakeview Students Explore Underwater Life in Local Stream

Recently, Lakeview Elementary 5th-6th grade students in teacher Leslie Campos' class benefited from an amazing lesson in stream ecology and the insect life cycle from our three experienced Four Winds nature volunteers! After a short classroom lesson and student-produced puppet show, the students hiked down to Stanley Brook, with buckets and nets in tow. Dipping their hands into the spring-cold water, (almost) no stone was left unturned as students searched for aquatic invertebrates like mayflies, stoneflies and caddisflies. The stream did not disappoint! Four Winds is a volunteer-based nature education program that currently serves grades K-6 in Lakeview Elementary School, as well as serving children throughout OSSU.
