🐝 On September 28, Woodbury Elementary 5th and 6th grade students were treated to an exceptional workshop with Kate Camilletti, teacher, farmer, and artist at ArtLab222. Students began by observing the pollinator garden. Kate made the lesson on flower anatomy a multi-sensory experience as students studied flowers with hand lenses in the field and captured the parts of flowers in their own drawings – sepals, petals, pistils, stamens and anthers. 🌺🌸🌻But the lesson exploded with interest and engagement as students gathered flowers for the dye – from Dyer’s Coreopsis to Black Knight Scabiosa – and created batiks by applying beeswax to swatches of watercolor paper and pieces of cloth. 🙌We thank the Woodbury Community Library who curated this experience for our students with support from the Winnie Belle Learned Fund grant from the Vermont Public Library Foundation.
