Hardwick Elementary 3rd Graders Go Potato Picking!

On September 13th, Hardwick Elementary students in Stephanie Appleton’s and Lisa Sedore's 3rd grade classes headed to the potato farm to dig their own potatoes! Farmer Bill Half of Harvest Hill Farm welcomed the students, teaching them about the “mother” potato that produces the baby potatoes and, over time, turns to mush in the ground; how the potatoes need soil, water, sun, oxygen, and fertilizer to grow; and that you should avoid eating green potatoes as they contain a toxin called solanine. Students had big plans to make French fries and mashed potatoes with their haul!
