Hardwick Elementary 3rd Graders Go Potato Picking!

On September 13th, Hardwick Elementary students in Stephanie Appletonā€™s and Lisa Sedore's 3rd grade classes headed to the potato farm to dig their own potatoes! Farmer Bill Half of Harvest Hill Farm welcomed the students, teaching them about the ā€œmotherā€ potato that produces the baby potatoes and, over time, turns to mush in the ground; how the potatoes need soil, water, sun, oxygen, and fertilizer to grow; and that you should avoid eating green potatoes as they contain a toxin called solanine. Students had big plans to make French fries and mashed potatoes with their haul!
